Freesat launch in UK


Freesat was launched on 6 May 2008 by both BBC and ITV at a press conference in London, UK. The units were said to be available immediately in some major stores.

The awaited announcement for UK consumers has now been made on 6 May, 2008 with the launch of FREESAT. This service will be in direct competition with SKY as it will eliminate the extra subscription payment of HD services with a single payment only for the product - prices starting at around 150 GBP.

Products are said to be currently available in Argos, John Lewis, Comet and Currys though investigations on 6 May with various outlets met with an awaiting stock reply. A new sister website of, will be launched soon for general unbiased information regarding this service and relevant products.
